Biography |
Dr. Jackrit Suthakorn was born in 1973. In 1995, he received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Mahidol University. In the same year, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mahidol University as a faculty member, and won a full scholarship from the Royal Thai Government to continue his advanced degrees in USA. He received his Master degree in Control Engineering from the Michigan Technological University, Michigan, USA, and Ph.D. in Robotics from the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, in 1998 and 2003, respectively. During his study, he had been working with GE Medical Systems Company from 2001 to 2002, where he had gained research experience in Biomedical Engineering, He has resumed his faculty position at the Mahidol University from 2003. He was the Vice-Department Chair, Department of Mechanical Engineering from 2004-2007. He had also establish the Center for Biomedical and Robotics Technology (BART LAB) in 2004 which he has been the Executive Director of the Center since the starting time until now. In 2006, he and his colleague had established the Departent of Biomedical Engineering at the Mahidol University as the first and only Biomedical Engineering Department in Thailand until now. He has been the first Department Chair since then until present. The department is quickly become well-known in Thailand, and the admission score for BME undergraduate program was ranked at the top of all Engineering discipline in Thailand from the year of 2008. In 2007, he was elected to be the President of the Thai Robotics Society (www.trs.or.th). He has been involved in RoboCup competitions since 2005. He has become an expert in Rescue Robot Competition at the RoboCup Rescue Robot League. He has been the Advisor for Country's Representative Rescue Robot Team to join the World RoboCup in Rescue Robot League from 2005 to Present which under his guidance the teams have been winning the RoboCup Championship for 5 times (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011). He and his BART LAB Rescue Robot Team has been winning the Thailand Robot Championship and the RoboCup Japan Opens for several times. He is now the Chair of Thail National RoboCup Committee and Executive Committee for the Rescue Robot League for the World RoboCup Federation. He has been leaders in several research clusters and projects which the total amount of research fundings is more than 4 Million USD. He has been awarded as the Mahidol University's Outstanding Award for Academic Person in 2011. Moreover, he has been invited to be in several important administration boards in several companies. His current research interests include Robot-Assisted Surgery, Surgical Navigations, Rescue Robot and @Home Service Robot which the past research interests included Self-Replicating Robots, Binary Hyper-Redundant Robotic Manipulators and MEMS. |
